Management team quit after loss at Bedfont Sports

ASHLEY SMITH

EGHAM TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB PRESS STATEMENT
Egham Town Football Club Ltd yesterday accepted the resignation of Mr Ashley Smith and his coaching team, following the defeat at Bedfont Sports. Egham Town are currently in 19th place in the Bostik League South Central Division.
Smith joined the club in September and immediately made a name for himself by guiding his new charges, in his first game, to a 1-0 win against local rivals Staines Town in the FA Cup. That was followed by a spirited draw against Hertford Town in the League and excellent performances against Bostik Premier Brightlingsea Regent in the next round of the FA Cup. However some good performances in cup competitions were not reflected in the league, only five points being taken from a dozen games. Using, and frequently being frustrated by, the use of loan players meant that, despite some sparkling individual performances from the loanees, there was little consistency in selection, which was reflected in results that saw 3 goals or more being conceded 9 times in his 21 games in charge. With a relegation six-pointer coming up at bottom side South Park on Tuesday it is important for Egham Town to get back to winning ways.
Egham Town Football Club Ltd thank Ashley, and his team (assistant manager Sean Kelleher and coach Jack Porter) for their unstintingly hard work for the club and wish all three gentlemen the very best for the future.

Mark Ferguson
Press Officer
