Bit of a write-up for the last two games

Press report for WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK 0-2 23.4.24 and Hilltop 2-5
Change will be happening at Runnymede Stadium in preparation for season 2024-2025. As the club ended with a dismal run of one point from the last 27, and that at home against now-relegated Chalfont St Peter, it is clear that for the Sarnies to re-establish themselves among CCL Premier front-runners there will have to be a rethink.
In the last two matches Egham faced two relegation-threatened sides. On Tuesday, Wokingham & Emmbrook took a two goal lead inside 14 minutes and never looked like relinquishing their advantage. Following that the Sarnies played on Friday night at Beaconsfield Town against Hilltop. Despite a promising start, Egham were behind in the 14th minute. They then took the lead as Luke Maguire rammed an indirect free kick into the roof of the net and did very well to convert a cross by Rodney Dos Santos. However, that edge was lost by half-time as co-manager Adam Humphries conceded a penalty, which was converted, and Hilltop were rewarded for their enterprising football two minutes from the break, capitalising on some lax defending.
Hilltop had a goal ruled out on a very tight offside decision early in the second period, and the other co-boss, Ben Peden, headed off the line from a lob over stand-in keeper Luke Daley. From the hour mark it all went a bit Pete Tong. George Tucker conceded a penalty, which (as I predicted!), Daley saved, but barely a minute later, the ball was in the Egham net again. After a frank exchange of views at close quarters Egham had Armani Morris booked and Dos Santos sin-binned. Almost immediately after Dos Santos had finished his ten minute break on the bench Humphries got the same punishment. Daley pulled off a good save with nine minutes left, but again the defence failed to clear and seconds later the ball went past the Egham keeper for 2-5. Four minutes from the end of a rubbish season experienced defender Dan Brown was shown a straight red, apparently for barging into the referee.
In the end it was the 12 game unbeaten run under Harrison Williams that kept Egham up. A return of 10 wins, 13 draws and 15 defeats is not good enough, and never will be. Watch this space…
