MATCH REPORT
SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER 2018
BOSTIK SOUTH CENTRAL

EGHAM TOWN 0 (0) WALTHAM ABBEY 1 (0)

After a run of bad losses Egham will look to the positives in this narrow and unmerited defeat to third place Waltham Abbey, who were making their first visit to Runnymede Stadium.
There were two more new names for the Sarnie faithful to assimilate, Tochukwu Okolo (a.k.a. “Chuck”) coming from Sutton United and making a start at left back, and midfielder Mason Tunbridge, from Enfield Town coming off the bench towards the end of the second half.
Brandon McCarthy made an incursion into the Abbey defence straight from the kick off but was closed down. Daniel Aristodou tested Egham keeper Andrew McCorkell with a fierce shot nine minutes in, then the game developed a pattern of Egham attacking but, again, failing to test the opposition keeper. From Josh Andrew’s run and cross McCarthy flicked a header wide, then McCarthy made his way down the right and when his cross was cleared Ashley Lodge fired just wide. McCarthy was then inches away from turning in Rhys Rabess’ driven cross from the left wing .
Home keeper Andrew McCorkell saved well early in the second period from Aristodou, new centre back Harry Tucker tidying up. Egham continued having the majority of possession, McCarthy and Lodge the most likely to profit, with keeper Arthur Jamata stretched by Lodge’s drive before the visitors broke away in the 21st minute and scored through Ibrahim Kehinde. That was enough to raise them to the top of the table.
Next Saturday Egham travel to Molesey for what is already looking like a relegation six-pointer. In 10 attempts Egham have only picked up league points twice, both at home, with a 2-1 success against Westfield and a 1-1 draw with Hertford Town. The former came under Simon Lane, the latter under Ashley Smith. Egham have lost five on the trot, the last four in the league.
Molesey have two points from 9 games, both away from Walton Road (2-2 at Ware, 1-1 at Bedfont Sports) but, like Egham, it is on the road that they have recorded their heaviest losses, 1-8 at Lewes in the FA Cup and 1-6 in a league match at Northwood. The draw at Ware is the only time this season they have scored more than one goal. However, they will possibly have that “new boss bounce” effect after Craig Lewington returned to Walton Road after a short spell at Walton & Hersham, who are struggling the Combined Counties Premier. Lewington, in his mid-thirties, and son of Crystal Palace assistant manager Ray (who also managed at Fulham and Brentford), said: “Management was something I always thought I’d end up doing. I live in Molesey and I’ve always wanted to do it.” He reckons that fitness levels need improving, and he needs to rebuild the squad. He has already had offers of loans from Woking, Met Police and Kingstonian, all ready for the home game against Egham. They lost a local derby FA Trophy match 0-1 against Walton Casuals on Saturday.
