Water-borne headache for Southern League management

A RANDOM ARTICLE BY MARK

Extra 7 days ??
League Statement

The League Secretary sought permission from the FA to extend the season by a maximum of seven days. On Monday afternoon that permission was granted, but only in certain circumstances.

Matches can only be played after 28th April whereby a Club has fully allocated its Saturday and two midweek dates. Furthermore matches taking place after 28th April must not involve any Club that is competing for promotion, including play-off positions, or relegation.

It may be possible that the League will be required to rearrange existing fixtures in the best interests of the Competition to facilitate the aforementioned.

Tonight has seen this problem highlighted. Aylesbury v Beaconsfield Town was called off. As can be seen below there are no Tuesdays or Thursdays on which both clubs are free. One of those Thursdays is our home game against Beaconsfield Town on 26 April. As The Rams are very much in the frame for at least a play-off place their home games against promotion rivals Hayes & Yeading United and AFC Dunstable must be played on or before 28 April - and that is just one club's fixtures. Any more rain and this could end up a right mess!
