EGHAM TOWN FC PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY 21 JULY 2012
DORKING 1 EGHAM TOWN 2 HT 2-0
Egham Town scorers: Matt Smith, James McShane
Kent League Otford pulled out of the friendly scheduled for today, citing pitch unpreparedness, and leaving Egham Town with an unwanted hole in their friendly schedule before Tuesday's game at Ashford Town (Mx.)'s Robert Parker Stadium. Hasty arrangements with Dorking saw the two CCL sides facing up at Dorking RFC's Big Brookham Field, on an open pitch that played pretty well, which is about the level both sides reached.
Egham were the superior side throughout, without really doing too much up front to mark their dominance in possession. The opening line up was: Josh Henry, Junior Wright, Jake Galbraith, Aarron Taylor-Ives, Alex Rodrigues, Enrico Rossoni, Matt Smith, Lee Pasmore, Charlie McCarthy, Tom Hedges, James McShane. Paul Borg was on holiday, and unfortunately we will not be seeing Dan Hartlebury for a while as he needs treatment on an injury that has not responded to inter-season rest. James McShane has come as a goalscoring midfielder from Molesey, and showed that attribute with a calm finish on 12 minutes after a clever one-two with Tom Hedges. A fast paced first half followed that early goal, neither side creating much, apart fromm Tom Hedges hitting the bar, but with five to go McShane chested a pass to Matt Smith whose cleanly struck shot flew inside the left stick. Dorking pulled one back with a well hit shot just before the hour, and John Hamsher and Wayne Noad gave the rest of the squad a good run-out. Those players were: Michael Carey, Brendan Matthew, Louis Chandle-Joseph, Louis Hedges, and Jamie Read. The latter comes from Spelthorne Sports with a decent goalscoring record and told me that one Jamie Atiase with be back with us. Remember him? He scored one goal for us, about 3 seasons ago, against Dorking (I think), and marked it with a well-executed somersault.
Ashford Town away next, then Farnborough at home on Saturday. As yet there are no details on either the travel arrangements for the Guernsey game nor the 41 other CCL Premier games we face in season 2012-13.
