Egham win at Walton & Hersham in SSC QF

SURREY COUNTY FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
SATURDAY SENIOR CUP QUARTER FINAL TIE
WALTON & HERSHAM 0 (0) EGHAM TOWN 2 (1)

Egham Town scorers: Josh Andrew (21), Louis Chandler-Joseph (87)
For only the second time in their history Egham Town reached the semi-final stage of the Surrey Senior Cup, progressing on Thursday night with a composed performance at Ryman One South Walton & Hersham. The reward for this landmark win is a visit to Skrill Premier side Woking on Monday 24 March, which will certainly test Egham’s recent fine run since the turn of the year.
Egham went into this match with a seven strong clutch of clean sheets in nine matches, and had little difficulty in making that eight in ten. In a match not filled with highlights the home side were looking to follow their fine 5-1 League win two days before at neighbours Walton Casuals with a win to pit them against old rivals Woking, but after some initial pressure there was little coming from front men Nehemiah Adams and Louis Glace-Palmer. At the other end Reis Stanislaus again caught the eye with his selfless industry, and after 21 minutes Egham got the goal their hard work deserved. Good work by Louis Chandler-Joseph (a last minute swap from the subs bench for Joe Chandiram, who had a slight muscle pull), helped Stanislaus, who spun past a defender on the byline and lay on a perfect pass for Josh Andrew to slide the ball past home keeper Dane Buss. Andy Crossley created the next chance with a fine run and cross shot that was cleared with some difficulty by the home defence. Walton’s Sean Bradley got away with handling in the area as Egham kept up the pressure.
Like the first half, the second went a full twenty minutes before anything of note, then Andrew sped down the right and got in a cross for Chandler-Joseph, who shot over. The game was 76 minutes old before Jamie Norris in the Egham goal had a save to make, and that from an underhit overhead kick by Nehemiah. With eight minutes to go Norris went route one, finding Crossley, via Matt Holliday’s poor defensive header, but the Egham wide man again saw his angled shot cleared. Four minutes later he gave way to striker Brendan Matthew, who made an instant impact. Chandler-Joseph played the ball to Stanislaus, who passed to Matthew, who in turn advanced goalwards, seemed to have a chance to shoot but instead played in Chandler-Joseph for a decisive shot carefully steered beyond Buss’ reach.
