Sarnies send Rebels packing

EVO-STIK SOUTHERN LEAGUE
RED INSURE CUP FIRST ROUND
TUESDAY 14 OCTOBER 2014
EGHAM TOWN 4 (2) SLOUGH TOWN 2 (2)

SCORERS
Egham Town: Dan Read (1), Reis Stanislaus 2 (38 (p), 88), Dwayne Antonio (48)
Slough Town: Scott Harris (19), Ed Smith (28)

Egham Town won their third game on the trot since Lee Passmore handed in his resignation, this time against Evo-Stik Southern Premier side Slough Town in the Red Insure Cup first round. Slough, who had lost 1-7 at home to Redditch United in the league on Saturday as Egham were winning 3-0 at Marlow, were behind almost straight from the kick off, Dan Read taking full advantage of a shaky defence. The Rebels hit back, though the equaliser came with Egham keeper Jamie Norris lying injured on the deck as Scott Harris tucked the ball away in the 17th minute. They then took the lead, Eddie Smith guiding his header beyond Norris in the 28th minute. The loss of that early lead could have caused Egham’s heads to drop but clearly they wanted to win this tie, and scored again seven minutes from the break. Former Slough man Reis Stanislaus and Josh Andrew worked an exquisite one-two before Jake Parsons injured himself in the act of bringing Andrew down in the box. Stanislaus hammered the penalty past Matty Bonnett in the Slough goal for 2-2.
With both sides intent on attack, and both defences looking vulnerable at times it was felt that there would be more goals, and so it proved. Three minutes into the second half Andrew found Stanislaus, whose nicely weighted through ball was perfect for Dwayne Antonio to brush off two defenders before firing in a low shot that Bonnett got a hand to but could not stop giving Egham the lead again. Just past the hour Stanislaus was within inches of extending the lead with a low shot. Jake Galbraith did well to prevent Smith scoring with a header from Luke Knight’s cross, and then Trent Phillips, former Egham Town goalkeeper, got himself sent from the dugout for having a go at the ref. Antonio and Read went off, replaced by Wayne Jackson and Ashley Quashie, Stanislaus headed wide off a Joe Chandiram free kick and Norris pulled off a superb save to stop James Dobson’s 25 yard free kick before Egham sealed the win with a wonderful goal. Danny Williamson had only just come on for Andrew when he hit a crossfield pass out to Jackson on the left. Jackson passed to the overlapping Galbraith, who fed Stanislaus, and with an audacious sweep of his right boot the ball was sent gracefully into the top right hand corner of the Slough net.
EGHAM TOWN: Jamie Norris, Lee Morley, Jake Galbraith, Ryan Lake (Captain), Wilson Gondwe, Louis Chandler-Joseph, Josh Andrew, Joe Chandiram, Dan Read, Reis Stanislaus, Dwayne Antonio. Subs: Wayne Jackson (Antonio, 76), Danny Williamson (Andrew, 85), Ashley Quashie (Read, 76), Luke Muldowney.
