THE SURREY COUNTY FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
SATURDAY SENIOR CUP FIRST ROUND
TUESDAY 21 OCTOBER 2014
CARSHALTON ATHLETIC 1 (1) EGHAM TOWN 2 (1)

Carshalton Athletic: Oliver Thornton (23)
Egham Town: Joe Chandiram (43) Jake Galbraith (80)

The Sarnies produced a gritty and spirited performance as they came from a behind to beat The Robins in a County Cup tie that saw them play out the second half with only ten men. The winner came from Jake Galbraith, with his first goal for the club since he rolled in the third in a 3-1 Combined Counties Premier win at champions-elect Guildford City on 17 March 2012. That now takes the ever dependable left back’s total to two, on a night that saw a very strange First XI picked by Luke Muldowney and Richie Byrne. The step back from league competition saw players rested and moved around. In came keeper Barry Marchena, who played a couple of seasons ago for a game or two, Ashley Quashie and Wayne Jackson with their first starts, Danny Williamson taking over the right back role and Reis Stanislaus only on as a second half substitute. Also named was youth team keeper Ronnie Hill. Against a Carshalton Athletic side low on confidence this turned out to be a good gamble, even though the Robins took the lead when a 25th minute corner evaded Marchena and reached Oliver Thornton for a home lead. Marchena prevented Egham going two down with a decent intervention two minutes from the break, and it proved crucial. Robert Carrick hauled Quashie down on the edge of the box then made the situation worse by trying to haul his victim off the deck. Joe Chandiram whipped a perfectly judged free kick past home keeper Jack Eden. From the kick off things suddenly got nasty as Josh Andrew, originally on the bench but swapped before kick off for Dwayne Antonio, who had pulled up short, reacted to being elbowed in the back of the head by Robins’ Tommy Bradford. The referee, who did not have the best of games, saw only the reaction and sent the Egham man off.
Jackson had concussion and was replaced by Stanislaus at the start of the second half. With ten men it was expected that Carshalton would be able to stretch Egham but after some initial sparring the visitors realised that they could manage a man short. In their opening spell of pressure Carshalton saw Quashie clear off the line and, with Marchena well off his line, Michael Campbell hit a 40 yard lob that would have gone in but for a superb goalline intervention from the hastily retreating Lee Morley. Ten minutes were left when Stanislaus and Galbraith carved open the right side of the home rearguard, before Galbraith slipped an angled, curling shot in off the far post for the winner and a trip to Molesey in the next round, on 3 December.
EGHAM TOWN: Barry Marchena, Jake Galbraith, Danny Williamson, Lee Morley, Luke Muldowney, Louis Chandler-Joseph, Josh Andrew, Joe Chandiram, Brendan Matthew, Wayne Jackson, Ashley Quashie. Subs: Ronnie Hill (gk), Reis Stanislaus (Jackson, HT), Dan Read, Ryan Lake, Dwayne Antonio (subbed before start).
