Sarnies give Marlow the blues

SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL
SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER 2014
MARLOW 0 (0) EGHAM TOWN 3 (2)
Egham Town scorers: Brendan Matthew (13), Reis Stanislaus 2 (43, 66)

Egham Town rose to 7th place after this second win in two games for Luke Muldowney and Richie Byrne, in charge in the wake of the sudden departure of Lee Passmore, followed by his two man team of Jack McKinlay and Neerav Patel.
There was good news for the Sarnie fans, with Wilson Gondwe signing for the club after playing four games on loan from Kingstonian. Now, after four games with Gondwe playing at centre back, Egham have won all four. The only time he played elsewhere, at right back against Rugby Town (in Passmore’s last game) Egham lost 4-1. There were three changes in the first eleven, Gondwe in for Mo Harkin and Louis Chandler-Joseph (who was working) and Dan Read (unavailable) being replaced by Dwayne Antonio and Brendan Matthew. It was Matthew who broke the deadlock after only fifteen minutes. Marlow, who had beaten leaders Kettering Town 3-2 three weeks ago, were all at sea against an Egham red tide, and when a long ball from Joe Chandiram beat the home defence the Egham striker chased it, home keeper Oneal Garnes dithered and Matthew jumped to head the ball over him and into the net. Marlow did not have much to offer up front but their defence worked hard to keep Egham at bay. Only Garnes sharp intervention prevented Reis Stanislaus converting Chandiram’s clever pass, and from Josh Andrew’s low cross Dan Bailey did well with a sliding clearance. However, when Paul Massaquoi earnt a yellow card for knocking Stanislaus over on the edge of the box the Egham man made Marlow pay with a fiercely driven free kick into the roof of the net after 43 minutes.
A two goal lead at half time should have been a comfortable cushion for Egham but Marlow were determined to get something out of the game. Garnes launched a goal kick down the park, finding Jordace Holder-Spooner, who sliced the ball high over Jamie Norris’ bar. Between that miss and Egham’s third goal Norris was kept busy, saving from Holder-Spooner and twice from Devontae Romeo. Egham hit back, Dwayne Antonio having a header saved off an excellent run and cross by Andrew. On 66 minutes Egham were rewarded for some brilliant approach work with their third goal. Jake Galbraith started the move by closing down Paul Rhys. Antonio received his pass, and switched it to Stanislaus, who belted the ball in low and hard into the bottom left corner of the net from 18 yards. That settled the game. Before the final whistle Egham subbed Antonio, Matthew and Andrew for Wayne Jackson, Matt Grave and Danny Williamson before Marlow finished with a flourish, forcing Norris to pull off another good save from Romeo followed by his best of the afternoon with a full length leap to turn Jake Parrott’s shot away.
Egham now have a run of cup games with Slough Town visiting on Tuesday in the Red Insure Cup First Round on Tuesday, Bridgwater Town travelling from Somerset on Saturday for an FA Trophy First Round Preliminary tie and, if there is no replay in the Trophy, Egham go to Carshalton Athletic in the Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday week for a First Round tie.
EGHAM TOWN: Jamie Norris, George Gould, Jake Galbraith, Ryan Lake (Captain), Wilson Gondwe, Ricky Farnden, Josh Andrew, Reis Stanislaus, Brendan Matthew, Dwayne Antonio. Subs: Matt Grave (Matthew, 81), Lee Morley, Dan Williamson (Andrew, 83), Wayne Jackson (Anthony, 76), Luke Muldowney.
