EVO-STIK SOUTHERN ONE CENTRAL
WEDNESDAY 28.10.15
PETERSFIELD TOWN 1 (1) EGHAM TOWN 0 (0)
Alex Przespolowski (41)
Egham Town’s ten match winning streak came to an end on the tilt at Love Lane last night. On a night on which they failed to find their true game the Sarnies were outfought and paid the price for too many below par performances. Missing skipper Kurtney Brooks due to work commitments and with left back Mitchell Gutteridge under the knife to repair his right shoulder the team welcomed Gutteridge’s replacement, experienced defender Dominic Rhodes. He got off to a flying start by being cautioned in the early stages, the bit that I missed because my satnav took me to the wrong end of Love Lane. When I got to the ground I saw that the horrible pitch on the pitch was still there, a dramatic left-right slope to which the home side were certainly more accustomed. It can’t be used as an excuse though. Egham could have taken the lead after 25 minutes had Jake Cass’ 25 yard looping shot been two inches to the right but it hit the left post. Then again, they were saved by Jamie Norris’ left foot as the Egham keeper diverted Alex Przespolowski shot. Cass had another go from distance but was off target then, four minutes from the break, Joseph Neighbour forced Norris into a decent save. The ball was not cleared, Petersfield pushed on and Przesplowski scored with a low drive.
Danny Bassett replaced Callum Webb early in the second half, giving the striker a chance to have a go at the home defence. Chris Henry’s cross after a 50 yard run gave Bassett a chance that a home defensive foot diverted for a corner. Egham could have gone further behind as the ball clipped the bar in a scramble following a free kick. A key moment came after 66 minutes when Brendan Matthew found room but missed the opportunity to get a shot off. He was then bundled over in the box but referee Lewis Sandue waved play on. The home side’s Neighbour and Egham’s Jerome Ecclestone became involved in a tussle in the 80th minute, both being cautioned.
Egham are still top of the Evo-Stik One Central and face Frome Town on Saturday in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy.
