There are some grounds which are problematic for Egham Town. The Ranch, Hanworth Villa is turning into one such, as is Krooner Park, Camberley. The Wibbandune is certainly in that category. A win in a League Cup tie, and one in the County Cup now stands against a league record reading DLLLLD.
Egham started well enough, but found Wood in their usual mode, harassing and chasing all over the pitch so moves kept breaking down, but they had a good chance after 13 minutes when Dale Marvell beat two men and crossed for Matt Grave, who volleyed over. Trouble came from the next attack; Samuel Mead got a boot tip to a Grave pass intended for Jamie Houghton, the ball was launched up field and there was an inevitability that not only would the ball fall to their star player, Mario Embalo, but that he would then take the ball on to steer it past Paul Borg. Egham struggled for a while in their efforts to find a reply, Houghton seemingly intent on landing the ball on the adjacent A3 with a couple of wallops. Embalo wasted a decent chance to make the score 2-0, and created an opening for his strike partner Chris Round as he chased Aarron Taylor-Ives' run across the Egham penalty area, but happily Borg was equal to the shot. Jimmy Davies pulled his shirt over his head after missing another opportunity to punish slack Egham defending, a miss which seemed to give Egham encouragement. Marcus Moody and Grave each created chancen as for the other, neither successful, and from a Marvell corner Moody's free header was off target. It was Moody who levelled, though, running the ball in from close range after Tom Hedges flicked on a Marvell free kick.
Egham lost Ken During to injury at half time, Lee Pasmore his replacement. Three minutes in, presumably after a flea in the collective ear, Egham were ahead when Taylor-Ives headed in cleanly from Marvell's flag kick. Had not the home keeper, Dan Burnett, pulled off a full length save from Marvell's 25 yard curler the points may well have gone to Egham, but woeful marking left the dangerous Embalo free to head in for 2-2 with 20 minutes left. Despite some mutual huff and puff and some noise from both benches the game had little in the way of chances thereafter, and ended with Borg making a straightforward save from Davies. Egham stay fourth, and travel to Horley Town on Tuesday before a home league game against a Dorking side who have, unlike recent seasons, started well, notwithstanding their home loss to Croydon.

EGHAM TOWN: Paul Borg, Dan Hartlebury, Jake Galbraith, Ken During, Aarron Taylor-Ives, Luke Muldowney, Jamie Houghton, Marcus Moody, Dale Marvell, Matt Grave, Tom Hedges. Subs: Brendan Matthew (Grave, 74), Lee Pasmore (During, HT), Max Galbraith, Tom Brunton.
