First league win in nine

CALOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL
SATURDAY 23.11.13
NORTH GREENFORD UNITED 0 (0) EGHAM TOWN 5 (2)

Egham Town scorers: Ryan O’Toole 2 (27 (pen), 41), Reis Stanislaus (59), Joe Chandiram (54), Brendan Matthew (89).
The omens were not exactly good, but Egham Town left Berkeley Fields with a moral boosting 5-0 win that lifted them up to 15th place in the Calor One Central division. This success is the first in the league since the win by the same eye-catching scoreline on 7 September at Uxbridge, that win being followed by three draws and five straight defeats. The first of those draws, at Potters Bar Town, elevated the Sarnies to 3rd place, but since then the club has slid down the table and before Saturday’s victory were sat in 16th place. None of those losses were by big margins, and the standard of Egham’s play has not been too bad, but against a side Egham had never beaten, missing keeper Gary Ross (replaced, as for the Trophy game against Ashford Town (Mx.) by Tristan Thomas, loaned from Bedfont & Feltham) and with the usual raft of other unavailabilities and injuries it was once more a re-juggled First Eleven named by Lee Passmore. Back came club skipper Arran Taylor-Ives, partnering Luke Muldowney in the centre of defence, with Mo Harkin back in midfield.
Egham were on top from the start, with North Greenford struggling and, after home skipper Danny Bennell scythed through Marcus Moody as early as the 4th minute, lucky to have a full complement on the field. Bennell then did the same on the same Egham man a quarter of an hour later but referee Thomas Ellams was clearly in forgiving mood. NGU then put a flowing move together and Anton Robinson fired just past the right post. That was about it for their attacking threat as Egham went down the slope and after a loose Greenford hand had been seen by the officials Ryan O’Toole slammed in the penalty for a 27th minute lead. When, five minutes later, O’Toole slalomed his way into the danger area and was fouled it was Reis Stanislaus who took the penalty, but former Egham custodian Lee Pearce pulled off a very fine save, diving to his right. He then pulled off another decent block from Stanislaus (after good work by Adam Bernard) and saw Moody shoot over his bar off a Joe Chandiram pass. The second goal came five minutes from the break, O’Toole steering the ball in off a Harkin pass.
The last time Egham went in two up at Berkeley Fields the home side overturned Matt Grave’s double to win 3-2. This time the second period was just four minutes gone when O’Toole cleverly hooked the ball back into Stanislaus’ path and the instant drive found Pearce’s bottom right corner. Stanislaus then provided a chance for Chandiram to slide the ball in for a 4-0 lead in the 59th minute, and was inches away from converting a Bernard cross just past the hour. Brendan Matthew, on for Bernard, forced Pearce into a fine save with a shot on the turn, but wrapped things up with a minute left. Chandiram found Andy Crossley (on for Stanislaus), who beat two men with his pace before pulling the ball back for Matthew to sweep the ball into the roof of the net.
EGHAM TOWN: Tristan Thomas, Josh Andrew, Jake Galbraith, Arran Taylor-Ives (captain), Luke Muldowney, Mo Harkin, Adam Bernard, Marcus Moody, Reis Stanislaus, Ryan O’Toole, Joe Chandiram. Subs: Jacob Lambe (Harkin, 54), Brendan Matthew (Bernard, 71), Andy Crossley (Stanislaus, 82), Kyle Anthony.
