Egham Town gave a sterling performance as third met second in CCL Premier North. Facing a side favourite, by virtue of having a superior goal difference, a five point lead and a game in hand over the Sarnies, the home side went into the second half a man and a goal down but recovered just six minutes after the break.
After an even first half the breakthrough for the visitors came as a ball into the Egham box landed between keeper Michael Edegbe and defender Haluna Masembe, with striker Anthony O’Connor in attendance. After a small nudge from Masembe the Southall man collapsed, Masembe was sent off and Lewis Putman rifled the spot kick home.
Six minutes into the second half Egham were level. Dan Brown played in a free kick from the left, and skipper Reece Yorke rose highest to nod the ball into the path of Brendan Matthew, who stabbed the ball home via the underside of the crossbar. In the 75th minute the Southall right back Darreon Mark picked up a second yellow for a pull on Sandro Costa’s shirt, his dismissal making it a 10 v 10 game for the last quarter of an hour.
