CALOR LEAGUE ONE CENTRAL DIVISION
SAT 7 12 13

MARLOW 2 EGHAM TOWN 4
H-T MARLOW 2 EGHAM TOWN 1

SCORERS: Marlow - Carl Davies 2 (3, 14)
EGHAM TOWN - Own goal (5), Ryan O’Toole 2 (52, 57 pen), Andy Crossley (70)

The question that Lee Passmore asked after the St. Ives Town game (“when are we going to stop conceding s**t goals” ) was answered today, with a resounding “Not Yet!” However, thankfully, this time Egham Town were able to do to Marlow what they had done to them by Northwood, the away side being 2-1 down at half-time but winning 4-2. Marcus Moody was not available and in preparation for the imminent absence of Adam Bernard (performing in the X Factor Live tour as a singer/dancer) he took a place on the bench. Joe Chandiram and Andy Crossley replaced them.
So, had Egham learned their lesson after chucking away two points against Rugby Town? No. Three minutes in keeper Gary Ross raced out to get the ball, Carl Davies was quicker, and the ball was sent into the Egham net from a difficult angle. A creditworthy response came two minutes later. Chandiram swung in a corner that Kyle Anthony headed goalwards so powerfully that although Marlow keeper Simon Grant got a hand to it, it was not enough. Centre back Adam Richards leapt to head the ball, but only managed to skew it into the net off the underside of the bar. That was OK but then, after a long hoof upfield from Grant, Arran Taylor-Ives and Ross got themselves and each other into a dopey, and needless, after-you-Claude-no-after-you-Maud befuddlement and Davies took full advantage. What happened to booting the ball into Row Z? Egham then, for a while, fell into that formlessness that has bedevilled too many games this season, with misplaced passes and wrong decisions. The biggest bad decision of the half, though, came from referee J Hollier not awarding a penalty for a foul in the box on Josh Andrew, who, seconds later, was flattened by Michael Bartley with a foul that, happily, was not followed by anything similar.
Whatever was said in the Egham dressing room must have been something special; it was like a switch had been turned on. Slick passing, clever movement and shots on goal suddenly featured and on 52 minutes Ryan O’Toole led the fightback as he took Mo Harkin’s pass, turned on a sixpence and smashed the ball low and hard past Grant. On the hour home skipper Danny Lingwood fouled O’Toole in the box and the Egham marksman scored comfortably to put his side in the lead. Marlow didn’t get a sniff as Egham let them advance to midfield and then hit them on the break, Crossley forcing a good save from Grant, who smothered the ball before Brendan Matthew, on for Jacob Lambe, could poach a goal. It was Crossley who was next to score, the industrious Reis Stanislaus giving him the chance to race in on Grant. Crossley took his first goal of the season with panache. Five minutes later he had an identical opportunity but was marginally off target before immediately giving way to Ashley Quashie. Grant saved well from Stanislaus and O’Toole in the same move, and again from O’Toole after an indirect free kick in the box following a handled back pass. Late on Egham's latest signing, Calvin Thomas, made his bow after signing from Calor One South & West side Guildford City. Thomas was comfortably the best City player when they came to the Runnymede Stadium for a League Cup tie that the Sarnies won 6-1.
